Heather Scott’s love for Canada’s wild spaces began the moment her family arrived from Northern Ireland when she was only four years old.
Growing up in Ontario, she first met the birds and city life, but after college she moved to a seasonal marshland, then a sprawling 100-acre farm. She discovered the magic of observing dozens of deer in open fields and porcupines in trees, hearing spring peepers chorus in the wetlands, and catching a glimpse of a lynx in the winter.
These experiences sparked a lifelong passion for Ontario’s diverse ecosystems and the creatures that call them home. Through the Maple Meadow series, Heather combines this deep connection to nature with her love of storytelling, creating books that invite young readers to discover the wonder of local wildlife. She believes that children who learn to appreciate the animals in their own backyards become the nature champions of tomorrow.
When she’s not writing or researching Ontario’s native species, Heather can be found exploring trails, listening for owl calls, and dreaming up the next Maple Meadow adventure.
